Cathedral-y Goodness

We were overwhelmed by the crowds at Notre Dame and decided to approach it from sidestreets rather than the super busy (and architeturally less interesting) entrance.

Of course we got lost.

But the cathedral is so much larger than the surrounding buildings that eventually it sort of loomed out of the haze, like a less horrifying (and properly Euclidean) tower of R'lyeh.

We'd been here before, but that was nine years ago, and this time there was a choir practicing inside, which made everything that much more amazing.

And then I had to freak out for awhile at this awesome Romero-esque interpretation of Lazarus:

And outside, a freaking geisha wandering around in full traditional dress.

Japan-happy seriously rules my life, even in the capital of Western civilization. It's a sign.
