Parisian Miscellany

It's been 9 years, and I forgot the scale of things on European monuments. Everything is HUGE. Hong Kong was tall, Tokyo was vast, but in Paris even the doorways dwarf elephants.

Overheard fratty-looking tourists who refused to be photographed in front of the Arc de Triomphe because there were "too many huge naked dude" sculptures attached to it.

Ben was not threatened.

It's really difficult to express what being in Paris is really like. So many travelers pass it over as passe, too expensive, etc... and yeah, it is, but once you're there those things don't matter in the slightest. I felt the same way 9 years ago on our first trip through Europe. It's just far and away the best place we've ever been. We've been to more interesting places (Japan) but Paris has the best of everything: best food, best architecture, best living, best blah blah blah. Just go.

My thesis is supported by this:

Art nouveau drinking fountain.
